Wedding photography in Austria & destination videography

To Austria with love, a story of getting married abroad in the Penken Mountains of Austria. Here’s the destination wedding photos & video to prove it.

A couple getting married with a panoramic view in front of them in the Austria Penken Mountains.

If you’ve ever seen the Sound Of Music and experienced the joy of watching Julie Andrews skip across the undulating countryside of Austria, you’ll know why we were super duper excited to be the wedding photographer and videographer for Joe & Hannah’s adventure, surrounded by the endless beautiful scenery.

As soon as we arrived, we could see why they loved it so much. You can spin around 360 degrees and be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes at every angle.

Every year since he was little, Joe’s family have visited the town of Mayrhofen for a skiing holiday. A tradition carried on by Hannah & Joe, now with their own little ones to take.

Gschösswandhaus, the couple’s wedding venue sat on the steep Penkenbahn rock face, an alpine inn high above Mayrhofen, at an altitude of 1,800 m. Only one way up, and that’s on the gondola.

Arriving by Gondola, we were definitely feeling a little smug that this is our “job”! We love adventures, especially ones up super high with stunning views and with a group of relaxed people whose only mission is to have the best time they can.

First up, a pre-wedding photo shoot at their Austrian cabin in Mayrhofen.

On the big day, drizzle from the previous day cleared and the terrace overlooking Mayrhofen was transformed into an outdoor ceremony space.

A German registrar and her daughter, who translated to English, wore traditional Austrian outfits. They held a sweet ceremony for Hannah & Joe, with ring exchange and of course, some tears. Tears of joy became applause and cheers from loved ones, as the couple walked back as newlyweds through confetti.

Hannah & Joe’s wedding plans were designed to suit their personality perfectly:

“Our style is wild and minimalist! The day will be extremely relaxed and to just enjoy each other's company!” - Hannah.

Guests rang cowbells enthusiastically during the wedding breakfast in the Austrian tradition. The party began after the meal, with the DJ playing music and some speeches. The night ended beautifully with a perfect sunset and actual cowbells dinging in the nearby fields.
